Faculty and Research

Faculty and Research at ESCP Europe Campus Berlin

For us, an international research focus is inextricably linked with excellent management training. We want to support companies in a changing world by combining theoretical progress and practical research. However, having a research focus does not mean that we shun practical experience, which we ensure through close co-operation with the business sector and our alumni network. The combination of theory and practice has always been a central element of our teaching and is anchored in an integrative manner in our teaching programmes.

At ESCP Europe Campus Berlin 10 professors are in charge of the chairs. The ESCP Europe Faculty counts more than 125 professors.

Research is a major priority at ESCP Europe. Across the multi-campus structure 125 full-time faculty members are working on the creation of new knowledge. The aim is to contribute new insights to the national and international academic communities on the one side and to provide innovative contents for teaching on the other side. The Dean of Research supports the faculty by further developing research policies, support structures and by implementing those together with a high-level research committee and other groups and stakeholders of the school.

Several organizational forms support the research outcomes of the school. In Research Centres competencies of the academic experts are concentrated on specific topics. They cover topics with a regional focus such as Latin America, related disciplines, e.g. sociology, or public management. Research Chairs are usually sponsored form outside the school. Currently, the school maintains chairs for Marketing and Communication, Health Care Management, Internal Control, Entrepreneurship, Risk Strategy and Business Performance as well as Market Finance. Research teams spread across campuses represent another major strength of ESCP Europe: Pan-European topics are investigated within the structures of a single school. Furthermore, individual professors from various national and cultural backgrounds are integrated in national and international networks and thus contribute to the research profile of the school. A major importance is also attributed to our PhD programmes, which develop future high-level researchers by a demanding course programme and innovative dissertations. For all these activities visiting faculty from all over the world is supporting us and uses the unique multi-campus structure of ESCP Europe.

The philosophy behind the research policy is, of course, promoting excellent research according to international standards set by renowned international journals. Participation in top-ranked international conferences is strongly encouraged by the school. However, the strength of ESCP Europe is also built on the European plurality, which means that particular emphasis is given to excellent research according to national standards locally in each country. These priorities provide a maximum variety regarding the choice of research topics, the chosen theoretical foundations and the preferred methodological design applied by ESCP Europe professors and thus provide an excellent environment for excellent research outcomes.
