Paradoxes of Globalization Facing the Crisis

After the opening by the Administrator General of Cnam and/or the General Director of ESCP Europe, the introducting speech will be given by the French minister of Foreign Trade, Ms. Anne-Marie Idrac.
Then two introducing speakers will provide,
- the first (acknowledged international observer with governmental long lasting experience, Mr. Hubert Védrine, former Foreign Affairs Minister), a global geo strategic and political vision, appreciating the main drivers observed and future possible global evolutions,
- the second (Western MNC’s CEO operating at world scale, with a strong involvement in FGEs, Mr. Gérard Mestrallet, Chairman of GdF Suez), business insights from his recent corporate experience, emphasizing on business implications for companies.
Which will lead to the four invited speakers coming from 4 major FGE (Russia/Moscow High School of Economics, China/ Nanchang, India/ IIM Ahmedabad and Brazil/Latin America),
- they will, first, successively present (15’) their assessment on the economic, political and social impact of the global downturn for their respective country as on the trade and investment flows impact in an out their economic area;
- they will, then, through a panel discussion (45’), cross-analyze with the support of a moderator (major ECA president, General Director of Coface, Mr. Jérôme Cazes), the various presented situations’ convergences as divergences and the possible evolutions at domestic and international level.
Afternoon will be dedicated to three workshops, held in parallel, which will pinpoint major challenges for various stakeholders. Each one will allow participants to react, both, on a short introductive presentation from a member of the organizing group and on a panel of experts’ discussion. These workshops will respectively focus:
- on academic issues to address, in order to analyze the impact of the crisis on FGE and on their international trade and investment flows,
- on business issues which will emphasize on major challenges faced by companies operating internationally towards and/or from FGE,
- on institutional issues involving key support organizations (governmental –at national, regional and multinational level- as nongovernmental -with a large scope ranging from insurance and banking institutions to education and inter professional organizations-).
The conclusive session given by a prominent academic (Prof. Pervez Ghauri, Kings college, London) will pave the way for further academic research in tight connection with companies in the present turbulent environment.
A last panel will be dedicated to European / fast growing economies relationships in the context of the crisis in connection with the European Union.
