ESCP Europe prides itself on offering our students an education that moves far beyond the traditional lecture hall set-up, and nothing embodies this better than the simulation run in our BNP Paribas Trading Room.
The first of its kind at any business school in the London area, this active-learning facility is exclusive to the London campus and sponsored by the global banking group BNP Paribas.
Trading Room workshops are an integral part of all programmes hosted at the School, from Summer Courses to postgraduate Masters, right through to our European Executive MBA. In addition to this, we host regular extra-curricular sessions with external partners and offer use of the facilities to visiting study groups. All of these activities combined allow more than 300 students each year the opportunity to experience first-hand the dynamics of the financial market.
The City of London is one of the world's major financial centres; our BNP Paribas Trading Room means ESCP Europe can bring the City to our students in a realistic and engaging fashion that stays with them far beyond their time with us.
If you would like to offer our students a Trading Room Workshop, please contact Tomas Zilinsky for more information. For those wishing to book a session for non-ESCP Europe students, please contact Francesco Morrone.
To find out more about what the facility offers in an academic sense, please contact Terence Tse, an Associate Professor of Finance here at the London campus.
"Because I have never studied economics or finance before, this trading floor simulation was completely new to me. I feel like I've learned so much more than I would have in a normal lecture because the learning process went through experimentation and adaptation processes according to the results we got. It also seemed realistic and gave me a taste of what it would actually be like to be a trader. Maybe I won't dismiss this career so quickly after all..."
"I think the most interesting aspect of using the Trading Room is the realism. Because we are not alone in the room, we feel the competition and the tension, which makes us concentrate even more on what we are doing. We are completely focused and able to learn so much faster because of it."
"The simulation was really useful because it allowed us to experience complex market dynamics in a simplified scenario."
"It's really interesting to be in 'competition' with twenty other students. You know that any decision you make will have an effect on the market and other traders."
"It's a great way to get an insight into how the financial market actually works. Learning by doing made the class really interesting. It also showed how exciting it is to be a trader!"
