Centre for Research in Conflict Decision Negotiation
"Conflict, Decision, Negotiation" (SSC) is a European multidisciplinary research centre. The centre's work focuses on areas of conflict management, decision making and negotiation ranging from the individual to the inter-organizational level in different contexts.
The CDN aims to develop European and international research collaborations to:
produce research results that can improve negotiation practice in different socio-economic contexts
contribute through seminars, publications and communications to the activities of the international scientific community
establish a close link between European and international research and methodologies
The CDN finds its search areas at various levels of analysis (social, organizational, interpersonal and intra-personal:
- within the private sphere
- within public and private institutions
- in specific fields such as land use, environment, management of cultural property and activities, and international negotiations
The CDN aims to explore decision making in conflict and negotiation processes within the fields mentioned above, taking account of societal dynamics and of the roles of individuals and groups in society.
To accomplish its mission, the CDN brings together researchers from different disciplines. Indeed, the research seeks to bring together conceptualizations from social psychology (clinical, experimental and applied), sociology, management, decision science, economics, philosophy, legal and political science and policy analysis.
CDN researchers use different methods of research to understand the complex phenomena of conflict. The main methodological approaches implemented at the CDN are:
- qualitative: using inquiry, observation and content analysis that allow rigorous description and interpretation of real conflict and negotiation situations. This kind of research contributes to the formulation of hypotheses for experimental research and may also lead to theoretical and operational propositions.
- experimental: starting from observations obtained through the descriptive studies and from literature, the kind of basic experimental research conducted in the research laboratory or through field studies is devoted to the exploration of conflict mechanisms and behavior, negotiation and decision making.
- Experimental research at the ESCP Europe laboratory
