Guest Lecturers
Philip Scranton is University Board of Governors Professor, History of Technology at Rutgers University. His publications include nine books and forty-five scholarly articles. He is currently editor of History and Society and director of the research arm of the Hagley Museum and Library.
Christopher McKenna is Reader in Business History and Strategy at the Said Business School, Oxford University and a Fellow of Brasenose College, Oxford. His book The World’s Newest Profession has won numerous awards. He serves on the editorial boards of Organizational & Management History and History and Enterprise.
Centre for Management and Financial History
To encourage research in business and financial history at ESCP Europe with the aim of making the European School of Management one of the leading centers for the study of the development of management and market institutions as well as the history of analytic techniques in business.
Mission
The center is dedicated to a comparative, interdisciplinary approach to business history. This entails not only work on separate national business experiences but how national cultures influenced each others economic trajectories. Moreover, the center will encourage scholarship focused on business institutions as social phenomena and research that combines historical and economic questions and methodology.
Activities
- Create a forum for the discussion of business and financial history. Establish seminars in which members of the ESCP Europe community present their own work or in which invited speakers present.
- Integrate a module for historical methodology into Ph.D. research seminar;
- Develop new courses in business and financial history;
- Support the research of members of the ESCP Europe academic community whose work can profit from a historical perspective;
- Look for ways of integrating the history perspective into general courses;
- Improve our research capacity;
- Find new sources of funding for research through private companies, foundations, or governmental institutions;
- Organize workshops ono comparative business and financial history with other academic institutions.
