Administrative requirements

Health insurance

Medical coverage is mandatory in France.

For students who are under 28 years old:

Students who are over 28 years old and stay 3 months or more must subscribe a private insurance, once they are in Paris.

French Student Social Security covers sickness, hospital and accidents costs and reimburses 70% of such expenses (dental and optical care is minimally covered).
Cost of Student Social Security 2011/2012 : €203

If you want to be better covered, you can subscribe a complementary insurance, called "mutuelle". It is highly recommended to subscribe a complementary insurance  to cover the total cost of your medical expenses (100 % reimbursement of medical costs, coverage of dental and optical costs as well as third party liability insurance "responsabilité civile".)
