The School is founded in Paris by a group of businessmen and economic scholars under the name Ecole Spéciale de Commerce et d’Industrie, soon renamed Ecole Supérieure de Commerce. Its mission was to train pre-experience students for roles in industry in commerce. The first Chair of Economics was held by the celebrated French economist, Jean-Baptiste Say.
The School is acquired by the Paris Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIP) in its 50th year.
The Alumni Association is founded.
The French Ministry of Education grants official recognition of the School’s degree, recognizing the pioneering contribution of the School’s combination of theoretical and practical, hands-on learning.
The School moves to avenue de la République in Paris.
The first programmes for experienced managers are launched, introducing a major innovation in the vocation of the School. It changes its name to Ecole Supérieure de Commerce de Paris (ESCP).
ESCP’s parent organization, the Paris Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIP) opens another business school with a European scope and focus, EAP Ecole Européenne des Affaires. The school has campuses in France, Germany and the United Kingdom. The programme is innovative: 3 years of study in 3 countries and 3 languages combining integrated work experience (3 months) in each country.
EAP’s campus in Germany moves from Düsseldorf to Berlin at the invitation of the Government of Berlin. The School is granted official recognition and a degree awarding charter in Germany. For the first time the same academic institution has degree awarding powers in two European countries.
ESCP launches the first Specialized Masters courses in France. These “Mastères Spécialisés” are for graduates from a wide range of technical and scientific backgrounds.
EAP launches a one year, full-time MBA programme on its Paris campus for graduates with five years of business experience.
EAP opens a fourth campus in Madrid.
ESCP launches an eighteen-month, part-time MBA programme for executives.
From its Berlin campus, EAP launches a Central European MBA (CeMBA) for working managers in the newly independent countries of Central Europe.
EAP launches the Master in European Business (MEB), a one-year, two-country business degree for graduates of a non-business first degree.
ESCP is among the first five business schools in Europe to be awarded EQUIS accreditation. Later in the year EAP also earns EQUIS accreditation.
The Association of MBAs (AMBA) accredits the ESCP Executive MBA and the EAP Full-time MBA.
ESCP merges with EAP:
ESCP-EAP European School of Management is born.
In September the first ESCP-EAP Master Class begins with over 500 participants. 45% of the participants are non-French.
The ESCP-EAP Master in Management Grande Ecole programme is validated by City University London. Students of the European tracks of the programme (Paris-London-Berlin or London-Madrid-Paris) are awarded a European MSc in Management.
ESCP-EAP is AACSB accredited. It is one of only a handful of business schools with Triple Crown accreditation: EQUIS, AMBA and AACSB.
ESCP-EAP opens its fifth campus, the Torino campus in Italy, in close collaboration with the Faculty of Economics of the University of Torino which validates the Master in Management Grande Ecole programme. ESCP-EAP graduates earn the Laurea Magistrale degree along with other degrees depending on their track of studies.
In the United Kingdom the campus moves from Oxford to London.
ESCP-EAP now has urban campuses in five major cities: Paris, London, Berlin, Madrid and Torino.
The Paris campus launches a Ph.D programme in association with French Universities. The Berlin campus proposes the Promotionsstudium Dr.rer.pol. The Torino campus offers a doctoral degree in association with the University of Torino.
The Paris campus of ESCP-EAP launches 5 Executive Specialized Master programmes.
The Master in European Business (MEB) expands to India. In collaboration with the Management Development Institute (MDI) Gurgaon, the MEB offers a joint Europe-India programme in management for participants from both regions.
The Master in European Business is officially recognized as a Master degree (Grade de Master) by the French Ministry of Education.
ESCP-EAP participates in the “Egalité des Chances” (“Equal Opportunity”) project launched by the French government and signs an agreement with two Parisian schools, the Lycée Edgar Quinet and the Lycée Rabelais. This partnership aims to select, inform, and motivate excellent students of various backgrounds on their opportunity to access major business schools.
ESCP-EAP proposes a new Specialized Master in Management of cultural and artistic activities, in partnership with the University of Ca' Foscari, Venezia. The programme offers a double degree: the title of ESCP-EAP Specialized Master, conferred by the French “Conference des Grandes Ecoles” and the Master di II livello delivered by the Università Ca’ Foscari.
ESCP-EAP now has a portfolio of 15 Specialized Masters.
The Master in Management Grande Ecole programme is officially recognized by one of the leading universities in Spain, the Carlos III University of Madrid, and awarded the Spanish degree of Master Europeo en Administración y Dirección de Empresas, ESCP-EAP.
