The ESCP Europe Faculty

Knowledge creation and transmission are in the hands of the school’s 125 full-time faculty members working across the 5 campuses. Each faculty member belongs to a teaching department and one or more research centres. The same faculty teams develop the curriculum and deliver the courses across all the programmes of the school, from degree programmes to executive programmes. All faculty members hold a doctorate or equivalent degree, most in management science, others in economics, law or the social and human sciences. The activities of our faculty members reach across three domains: teaching, research and academic programme leadership (i.e. academic responsibility for one or several teaching programmes). Moreover, each faculty member has one day per week for consulting activities, either for business firms or other private or public organisations requiring their services.
In addition to these 125 full-time faculty members, there are three further types of teachers working at ESCP Europe. There are 63 affiliate faculty members who contribute their expertise to the teaching programmes, either lecturing in the classroom or assuming responsibility for an entire course in their given field of expertise. These are primarily university professors or working professionals who dedicate a considerable portion of their time to teaching.
Likewise, each year ESCP Europe hosts a number of visiting faculty from universities around the world. Visiting faculty either spend a sabbatical period in one of our research centres or deliver lectures on occasion in the context of existing partnership agreements.
Third and last, over 700 working professionals, with long experience and strong expertise in their fields, contribute to ESCP Europe taught programmes as adjunct faculty members. Their contributions cover all aspects of business and business organizations, including the different professions and sectors.
The Dean of Faculty oversees faculty development and represents its members within the business school.

Research

Research is a major priority at ESCP Europe. Across the multi-campus structure 125 full-time faculty members are working on the creation of new knowledge. The aim is to contribute new insights to the national and international academic communities on the one side and to provide innovative contents for teaching on the other side. The Dean of Research supports the faculty by further developing research policies, support structures and by implementing those together with a high-level research committee and other groups and stakeholders of the school.

Several organizational forms support the research outcomes of the school. In Research Centres competencies of the academic experts are concentrated on specific topics. They cover topics with a regional focus such as Latin America, related disciplines, e.g. sociology, or public management. Research Chairs are usually sponsored form outside the school. Currently, the school maintains chairs for Marketing and Communication, Health Care Management, Internal Control, Entrepreneurship, Risk Strategy and Business Performance as well as Market Finance. Research teams spread across campuses represent another major strength of ESCP Europe: Pan-European topics are investigated within the structures of a single school. Furthermore, individual professors from various national and cultural backgrounds are integrated in national and international networks and thus contribute to the research profile of the school. A major importance is also attributed to our PhD programmes, which develop future high-level researchers by a demanding course programme and innovative dissertations. For all these activities visiting faculty from all over the world is supporting us and uses the unique multi-campus structure of ESCP Europe.

The philosophy behind the research policy is, of course, promoting excellent research according to international standards set by renowned international journals. Participation in top-ranked international conferences is strongly encouraged by the school. However, the strength of ESCP Europe is also built on the European plurality, which means that particular emphasis is given to excellent research according to national standards locally in each country. These priorities provide a maximum variety regarding the choice of research topics, the chosen theoretical foundations and the preferred methodological design applied by ESCP Europe professors and thus provide an excellent environment for excellent research outcomes.
