Responsible to:

The Trustees of the UK Charity for the strategic and academic development of the School according to the scheme of delegated matters (copy attached), working in close co-operation with the Dean of ESCP Europe and other members of ESCP Europe's Senior Management Team in Paris

Work Experience:

Successful candidates will have 5 to 10 years’ experience working in an academic environment, with an established local network but also the ability to understand the environment of a French Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire teamwork within an international academic institution would be highly valued.

The role of the UK Director:

Is to provide first class leadership for the School in its development as a significant part of ESCP Europe and as a highly rated business school in London known for the quality of its teaching, the relevance of its programmes and the excellence of its students.

Overall Objectives:

In line with the strategy agreed by ESCP Europe for the School and approved by the Trustees of the Charity and at all times working with and through the Dean and Senior Management Team of ESCP Europe headquartered in Paris:

• To lead and develop the School nationally and internationally;
• To formulate and implement effective strategies for: enhancing the quality of learning and teaching, developing innovative programmes and modes of delivery, building research excellence, generating income and scholarship funds, boosting national and international student recruitment at all levels and enhancing the educational character and mission of the School;
• To develop Executive Education to meet the specific training needs of companies, enhance the reputation of the School among the business community and generate income for the School;
• To manage the performance of all staff in the School in accord with ESCP Europe policies, including the formulation of policies affecting the recruitment, reward and development of staff and fostering research and scholarly activity amongst all academic staff;
• To monitor and develop financial strategies, to ensure the financial wellbeing of the School and the most effective use of resources;
• To liaise with national and international collaborators in the public, voluntary and private sector.

Key tasks

Strategic Planning / Operational Management

• To play a full role in the consideration, development and delivery of ESCP Europe's and the School's strategy and planning;
• To direct through consultation the formulation of the School's academic plan in the context of ESCP Europe's overall strategic planning, and be responsible for its implementation, monitoring and reporting;
• To manage plans and budgets for the School in accordance with ESPC Europe's budget and corporate plan;
• To attend, serve and support Trustee Meetings and Audit and Risk Committee meetings;
• To lead innovation in all aspects of teaching, learning and programme development.
• To see that the teaching staff are motivated, and comply with their duties and responsibilities;
• To lead the development of an effective School strategy for achieving and sustaining research excellence, scholarship and enterprise;
• To promote good communications within the School and external institutions;
• To actively implement and promote the School's Equality and Diversity policies;
• To manage the formulation of a human resources plan for the School which identifies the skills and expertise necessary to support academic and business plans, and to manage and deploy staff appropriately in support of academic programmes and other School activities;
• To ensure the effective use and development of all allocated resources - staff, money, facilities and equipment.

Academic Leadership

• To play a key leadership role in developing the academic culture of the School through the creation of an enabling professional and collegial environment;
• To sustain and develop the School's capacity to achieve research excellence in all areas of the School's activities.

Executive Education

• To develop Executive Education to meet the specific training needs of companies to enhance the reputation of the School among the business community and generate income for the School;
• To Chair the Board of ESCP Europe Corporate Services Ltd. To set its budget
working with ESCP Europe's Senior Management and to drive it to achieve
budget and monitor its business and financial performance;

Quality and Innovation

• To make a significant contribution to the strategic direction and outcomes of the School;
• To support the development of new research programmes and projects and continue to enhance the School's research infrastructure and environment;
• To foster and stimulate innovation and income-generating activities in the School;
• To promote a collegial and professional environment within the School and to
oversee the management and operation of all the academic programmes within the School, in accordance with Quality Assurance policies and procedures, to secure academic standards and enhance the quality of the student experience.

Student Support

• To be responsible for enhancing the student experience within the School, through the delivery of high quality teaching and curricula, as well as through ensuring that administrative support is effectively planning and delivered;
• To be responsible for increasing student recruitment and retention within the School;
• To lead staff development initiatives consistent with staff aspirations and
development needs, supportive of both individual and collective efforts.


• To co-ordinate the strategic development and successful implementation of
consultancy and related activities;
• To lead and deliver effective partnerships externally, with industry, commerce, the professions and public service, and with other regional, national and international university partners;
• To develop collaborative links with further education institutions, Schools and other appropriate educational institutions in furtherance of student recruitment;
• To develop and maintain international partnerships with the School which will seek to maximise student recruitment, research and other academic activities.
