Martin joined ESCP Europe, Berlin Campus, in January 2013, when he became Chairholder of the newly set-up Chair of International Accounting on the Berlin Campus.
Before joining ESCP Europe, Martin has worked at various other universities as visiting professor or visiting lecturer. His experience outside university include the IFRS technical department of Deloitte Germany (senior manager), and the German accounting standard-setter – the Accounting Standards Committee of Germany (DRSC, project manager). In these positions Martin was able to gain technical expertise in matters of applying IFRSs and dealing with various practice and interpretation issues. He also had the opportunity to work together with the relevant standard-setting institutions: the IASB, EFRAG, the European Commission and the German Federal Ministry of Justice. Before that, he worked for a German bank for a few years.
Martin holds a doctorate in economic science from the Freie Universität Berlin, and a Diplom-Kaufmann of the University of Technology Berlin. He received additional education from the University of California at Los Angeles and the University of Nevada at Las Vegas.
Martin's current research projects focus on financial accounting and auditing.
He is a member of the European Accounting Association (EAA), the European Auditing Research Network (EARNET), the German Academic Association for Business Research (VHB), and the International Association for Accounting Education and Research (IAAER).
Martin attends the conferences of these organizations on a regular basis to present and discuss his current research.
Martin is Chairholder of the Chair of International Accounting on the Berlin Campus.
