Vincent Smith is an assistant professor at ESCP Europe, where he teaches business law and regulation to postgraduate level. He is a qualified lawyer (solicitor) in England and has over 20 years’ experience in private legal practice, specialising in European law, in London and Brussels. He has also been a UK civil servant – legal director for enforcement matters at the UK telecommunications regulator and subsequently Senior Director for Competition at the UK’s competition enforcement agency (OFT), where he led a team of around 180, enforcing behavioural UK and EU competition rules and also dealing with the ‘first stage’ in UK merger control cases.
His research interests are in the area of European business law – with a focus on competition law and regulation – alternative dispute resolution (arbitration), and the relationship between law, business regulation and ethics. In addition to his teaching at ESCP Europe, Vincent also teaches competition law to LLM (law master) students at the Centre for Commercial Law Studies, Queen Mary, University of London and at City University, London.
