London Campus
CEO Lecture Series: Dr. Alfredo Behrens
Start date  : 25 January 2018
Start time  : 06:00 pm
End time  : 07:00 pm
Organizer  : London Events

ESCP Europe's London campus is pleased to welcome FIA Business School professor Dr. Alfredo Behrens, expert in the fields of leadership and management, for the next event in its exclusive CEO Lecture Series.

These lectures will provide an opportunity to hear directly from successful executives and business leaders. Each will share lessons learned throughout their distinguished careers, and provide insight into complex business worlds.

On 25th January, our guest will debunk the idea that there is a unique form of management suitable for all cultures.

When people more fitting to clannish organisations are managed in the predominant North American style, they respond with lifeless foot-dragging, as at subsidiaries of multinationals in developing countries.

What is now called the American System of Manufacture originated from an idea rejected in France because it did not fit the culture there; yet the need for management translation has now been eclipsed by the success the French idea found in the USA, to the extent that nobody even remembers it was a French idea in the first place.

Dr. Behrens will discuss the idea that when managing subsidiaries, organisations must listen to what makes the workers there tick and, consequently, develop ways to integrate locally sensitive management to reporting and control systems at headquarters.

The talk will be followed by a Q&A.

Our speaker has recently published the book Gaucho Dialogues on Leadership and Management, which storifies the relationship between leaders and followers of Latin American rebellions. Such rebellions lasted several years, some more than a decade, taking place before Harvard Business School existed - at a time we had our own ideas on good-fit leadership and management practices. His book tour, of which this event is part, is sponsored by FIA Business School, a partner of ESCP Europe.
