Training for the simulation is mandatory as the rules of the UN are very complex. Each business school has been assigned a country which its delegation will represent. Over the course of the summit, ESCP Europe students based in London will train the visiting students in the rules, protocols and negotiation methods of the United Nations, led by the society President, Constance Courtalon, a Master in Management (MIM) student.
The Model UN session in New York City will take place from 27-31 March, 2016. The ESCP Europe London campus team will represent Bolivia, and have already been working hard on understanding the economic and geopolitical issues facing their country. In New York they will be expected to participate in negotiations led by young UN officials as Chairs, beginning in hotel-based committee meetings and then moving to UN Headquarters. Delegations will be assessed on the quality of their speeches and written submissions (resolutions), as well as their motivation and attendance.
ESCP Europe: Most Honourable Delegation 2015
Constance Courtalon was lucky enough to have been part of the 2015 delegation from ESCP Europe which was presented with a special 'Most Honourable Delegation' award by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. She said: "We were working from 8am till midnight, but it was really worth it – we were so proud and excited when we received this special award from Ban Ki-moon himself!"
Visiting Business Schools
ESCP Europe will welcome the following business schools to London for the training summit: ESSEC, Grenoble School of Management, HEC, NEOMA and Kedge.
About the National Model United Nations
Over 5,000 college/university students, more than half from outside the United States, travel to New York City each spring to discuss current global issues. Delegates come prepared to solve three pressing issues relevant to 21 simulated UN committees. Outside conference sessions, delegations enjoy the proximity to Permanent Missions to the UN, the United Nations itself, as well as world class museums, architecture, shows, restaurants and shopping. NMUN's premiere conference is held with UN Headquarters as a backdrop.
