Economy 21st: K.B. Shankar presents 'Managing Risks in a Large International Bank'.

K.B. Shankar, Head of Financial Institutions in Group Risk at HSBC Holdings, presents 'Managing Risks in a Large International Bank'.

Date: Monday, 6th June
Time: 7:00 pm
Location: Room G77, ESCP Europe London campus
Directions

With 295,000+ employees serving customers in 88 countries and territories around the world, the HSBC Group is one of the largest global banking and financial services organisations. Its well established businesses in Europe, Asia-Pacific, the Americas, the Middle East and Africa mean HSBC's unique combination of local knowledge and international  expertise reflects its position as the 'world's local bank.'

For a number of years, HSBC's strong risk management system has protected the bank, and hence its clients, from various external economic fluctuations. Anticipating, monitoring, analysing and managing risk is essential to guaranteeing the bank's results, while the global financial environment is becoming more complex.

Our guest speaker will particularly focus on risks which arise due to the nature of international business, including complex structures, distance, time difference and uncertainties about regional aspects. The impact of cultural diversity in dealing with risk management in today's global marketplace will also be discussed.

K.B. Shankar will furthermore focus on more specific and current issues, such as country/sovereign risk. You will learn which risks can arise from the economic, social and political environment of a foreign country and which criteria are generally used to enter a new country. Our guest speaker will explore the different levels of risks in developed markets compared to emerging markets, as well as the impact of increased regulations in a bank's involvement abroad.

The lectures will be followed by a formal question and answer session, allowing for a lively discussion of the theories presented; and after this a more informal opportunity to mingle over refreshments.
