ESCP Europe seeks a new Director for its Torino Campus

The role is formally Managing Director of the ESMI Foundation, which oversees the management of the campus.

ESCP Europe is the oldest business school in the world (est. 1819), located in five European cities (Paris, London, Berlin, Madrid and Turin). The Turin campus is supported by the ESMI Foundation and the campus director is appointed as the Managing Director of the ESMI Foundation, under a three- year fixed-term contract, commencing on 1st December, 2013.  

The Campus Director is responsible for the leadership, operations and overall management of ESCP Europe in Turin. This would include responsibility for creating a supportive team environment where high productivity and performance standards can be achieved in the areas of operations, finance, admissions, academics, student services and administration. This will involve a high level of visibility on campus, and also among the local business community, government leaders, and locally-based alumni of the School. Building strong relationships with companies will also be important in developing a strong executive education offer for the Campus.

He/she will also be a permanent member of the European Management Committee, together with counterparts from other campuses, contributing expertise and experience in operational and strategic planning for the School overall.

Under the general supervision of the Dean of ESCP Europe and the Chair of the ESMI Foundation, the role will involve implementing the global strategy of the School and adapting it local requirements.

Successful candidates will have 5 to 10 years’ experience working in a corporate environment, with an established local network. Strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire teamwork within an international academic institution would be highly valued.

The final selection will be made by the ESMI Foundation Board. The successful candidate will report to the Chair of the ESMI Foundation and the Dean of ESCP Europe.

The campus Director will be responsible for:

Staff Responsibilities

  • Ensuring adequate staffing for administration and instructional purposes
  • Managing staff decisions including recruitment, selection, termination, orientation, training and performance management

Financial Management

  • Managing the overall financial results of the campus
  • Monitoring business trends in order to develop profit and growth strategies
  • Developing campus annual budgets, managing, maintaining and reporting financial information
  • Approving purchase orders for operational items

Admissions and Student Management

  • Maintaining/increasing student numbers and recommending financial incentives
  • Ensuring the quality of student life is in line with overall policy

Faculty and Programme Management

  • Ensuring that the calendar of events (term dates, exam timings) fits local needs
  • Ensuring that coordination and scheduling of teaching operations runs smoothly (instructors, classrooms etc)
  • Providing input into curriculum design and development
  • Supporting academic research initiatives

The following education, experience and competencies are essential:

  • A PhD or university-level teaching experience in business administration, management or education
  • Ability to work fluently in English and Italian
  • Strong leadership and skills with the ability to motivate and inspire good teamwork
  • Excellent judgment, problem solving, communication and organisational skills
  • Strong relationship management skills to maintain positive working relationships with staff, students and external stakeholders
  • Ability to ensure a high quality service, while managing multiple demands in a fast-paced environment
  • Proven ability to prepare, manage and analyse budgets and financial reports

Desirable: Five to ten years’ management experience in a corporate environment
