ESCP Europe students and staff begin fundraising for The Great Generation

Last summer, seven students from ESCP Europe's London campus travelled to Uganda's capital Kampala to join the Great Generation organisation in the ongoing development project with the Kyebando Vocational Training Centre.

This year 15 of our postgraduate students and two members of staff will build on the success of the projects undertaken in the past three years to support the KVTC in becoming a self-sustainable enterprise.

KVCT was established in Kampala in 1987 to aid orphans and vulnerable young people affected by diseases like HIV and AIDS. The psychosocial and economic impact in the region is exacerbated by factors such as poverty, unemployment, gender bias, poor parenting, and the lack of education, skills and access to health services; KVCT's mission is to mitigate these negative impacts via educational programmes. Each year the Centre equips more than 400 young and vulnerable people with life and vocational skills to increase their chances of finding - and remaining - in long-term employment. This will, in turn, help stimulate the local economy.

Taking Part in 2011

Our work with The Great Generation continues in 2011. A group of ESCP Europe students will be travelling with two members of staff to Uganda from 11th - 22nd July to assist KVTC in their endeavours.

This year's project will build on the success of past trips and underpin the Catering Enterprise business plan. We will deliver the next iteration of business planning for the Enterprise, review progress made so far, suggest solutions to the challenges encountered, and review how the business plan can be scaled to another income-generating enterprise, the Centre's tailoring business. Additionally, we will uncover potential opportunities for rebranding the Centre, and will provide leadership and marketing skills training to enable effective and sustainable functioning of the organisation on a day-to-day basis.

This amazing project can only come about due to the generosity of our students, colleagues, corporate partners and friends. There will be several fundraising initiatives on-campus throughout the next few months, but you are also able to make a donation via the following methods:

Donating by text message: You can make a £5 donation to the project by texting UGANDA to 70500. The donation will cost £5 plus a text message at the standard rate. ESCP Europe Business School (registered charity No. 293027) will receive a minimum of £4.37 from each text. Please make sure that you have the bill payer's permission before making this donation.
Campaign ends: 30/06/2011

Thank you in advance for your generosity!
