ESCP Europe UK Director appointed to Banca Del Sud Italia committee

Professor Davide Sola, ESCP Europe Business School's UK Director, has been named as a member of the prestigious Banca Del Sud Italia committee.

Launched by Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi and Economic Minister Giulio Tremonti under its official name – Banca del Mezzogiorno S.p.A. – the initiative will operate as 2nd tier financial institution supporting and promoting small and medium-sized local enterprises working closely with local financial institutions as well the southern network of Poste Italiane.

It is hoped that the Government sponsored privately-owned bank will direct money toward economic initiatives that will in time offer greater employment opportunities and ethical practices for the people of southern Italy. With a specific focus on the establishment of new firms, particularly those created by younger or female entrepreneurs, Banca del Sud Italia marks a positive step forward for Italian businesses in the wake of recession.

Professor Sola was named as one of the 15 members of the overseeing committee by the Italian Minister for Economic Development, Claudio Scajola.

As both the UK Director and an Associate Professor of Strategy and Management at ESCP Europe Business School, Professor Sola has a long career in the field of business strategy research. His role will focus on the identification and selection of candidates for government funding, directly driving this regenerative scheme.

"I'm honoured by my appointment to the committee," said Sola. "I feel privileged to have the opportunity to apply my management experience and work as a management scholar to help with the redevelopment of southern Italy at this crucial time."
