Event for the launch of the report entitled "Open Innovation, what's beyond the buzzword?" on 22 November 2011

i7, the Institute for Innovation and Competitiveness, which was founded by ESCP Europe and the Europe+ Foundation, will be presenting its study on Open Innovation, carried out jointly with Accenture on 22 November 2011.

Open Innovation is gaining momentum in various industries and has become a real buzzword in the media. Companies have begun to associate their stakeholders to the innovation process, including suppliers, customers and other members of the value chain. But this evolution raises questions and is causing changes in a wide range of domains: profiling innovation partners, property law and patent protection, criteria for success, etc.

The report entitled "Open Innovation, what’s beyond the buzzword?" will provide an overview of best practices in terms of Open Innovation and their consequences. To provide insight into this question, a study has been carried out on 20 international companies, which all have relevant experience in Open Innovation. These companies operate in a variety of fields, ranging from the food industry (Danone, General Mills and Kraft), consumer goods (Procter & Gamble, Unilever, Beiersdorf) to chemistry, pharmaceuticals and telecommunications (Alcatel Lucent, GE, Merck). The study analyses current cooperation practices in terms of innovation with suppliers and research laboratories, preferred organisational configurations, the impact on innovation cycles, processes and relations with business partners, as well as the performance indicators used.

Four ESCP Europe staff members took part in the study: Delphine Manceau, Director of the i7 Institute and Professor in the Marketing Department, Valérie Moatti, Professor in the Information and Operations Management Department, as well as Aude Prebay and Julie Fabbri, Project Managers for the Dean of ESCP Europe and General Secretaries of the Institute for Innovation and Competitiveness.

ESCP Europe will be hosting an event on 22 November at the Paris Campus to present the results of the study. The event will bring together several Innovation Directors for a roundtable discussion around the findings.
