Leading for Innovation

The European Executive MBA (EEMBA) is a part-time programme taken over an 18-month period. Courses are taught in English and the curriculum combines core courses, electives, an international consulting project and international seminars around the world.  Two current participants of the EEMBA are Adam Köhler, Process Technology Manager, Schott Solar CSP GmbH, and Dr. Philipp Meier, Head of Contracts & Legal Affairs, Business Unit Light Rail Vehicles, Bombardier Transportation Austria. Both have joined the international seminar „Leading for Innovation“ from 5-9 March 2012 at McCombs School of Business, located on the wonderful Campus of the University of Texas in Austin, Texas, U.S.A.  The seminar programme comprised lectures, little workshop typed exercises, speeches of corporate speakers and company visits which are assembled in a well thought manner to provide the participants with a detailed overview of a very broad aspect of business.

For Dr. Philipp Meier it is obvious that innovation is the key driver of change and growth for companies. He underlines the need to constantly seek for  improvement in order to keep competitive advantages in the market: „It was emphasized and understood that it is crucial for any organisation to create an environment  and atmosphere that are open to trial and error and thus allow people to be innovative. I learnt that every change has to be seen as an opportunity“, he said.

„The seminar provided us with a cutting edge view of innovation from an American perspective in the context of rapidly changing economic surrounding conditions.  The programme made me aware of many different aspects and facets of innovation within the corporate world, which I did not acknowledge so far. The most important learning for me about innovation is the fact that every idea needs the right level of advocacy within the an organization in order to be successful“, summarises Adam Köhler.

And Dr. Philipp Meier adds: „It was also great to experience a different teaching method. Outstanding Professors  have been not only entertaining but also allowing real take away of new perspectives. And it was great to have "high calibres" as guest speakers and to get an understanding of how top companies in the United States face the challenges of a fast changing environment.“
