Users of the world unite – Science Direct’s Hottest Business Management Article in 2011

The article “Users of the world, unite! The challenges and opportunities of Social Media“ co-authored by Andreas Kaplan and Michael Haenlein and published in Business Horizons is Science Direct’s Hottest Article 2011 in the business management category and # 11 across all areas (out of 2,500 journals) measured via the number of downloads.

Within this article, professors Kaplan and Haenlein provide a detailed definition of the term "social media" as well as classification scheme of the different types of applications usually included in this concept. Moreover they give 10 pieces of advice for companies who want to engage in social media usage. Only published in 2010, the articles has already 100 citations in the Scopus database, over 20 citations in Business Source Premier and over 400 citations in Google Scholar. "Users of the World Unite" is therefore on its best way towards becoming a seminal paper in the area of social media.
