Specialized Master (MS)
The Specialized Master (MS) is a quality “label”, created in 1986 by the French “Conférence des Grandes Ecoles”, the professional association of top business schools (CGE), which is granted to advanced master programmes answering to certain criteria and offered exclusively by French Engineering or Business Schools who are members of the Conférence des Grandes Ecoles. Students are recruited mainly at Master level, with a French or foreign diploma of equivalent level (in the past called bac+5 in France). Specialized Masters aim to train high level executives eager to acquire a specific specialization or a double competence in management.
Master
The Master degree is the recognized national degree delivered by the French Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Research, since the European harmonisation of degrees in 2005 (the French “LMD” or “3-5-8”, qualifying higher studies: L for Licence, which is equivalent to a Bachelors degree (after 3 years), M for Master (after 2 more years), D for Doctoral degree (after 3 more years). The Master degree qualifies diplomas or titles of 5 years’ studies level (called “bac+5” before in France), delivered and guaranteed by the state. In French Universities, the former French diplomas called “DEA” and “DESS” have been replaced respectively by Research Master and Professional Master. In the "Grandes Ecoles" business schools, admissions procedures exist at Licence3 (Bachelor) and Master1 level.
Specialized Masters are professional-oriented programmes in management and lead to a specialisation or double skill in response to corporate demand for high qualified managers.
Choosing the right Specialized Master is a key element in a long-term professional project. The Specialized Master gives graduates and young managers the high added value skills that corporate recruiters look for.
