ESCP is strengthening its commitment to the environment and sustainable development by announcing the launch of the "Stand Up For A Sustainable Word" conference series.

The purpose of these conferences is to make business people aware that safeguarding our planet is the major challenge of our century. They will be led by high-ranking personalities committed to environmental protection.

ESCP's Executive Education aims to support managers and companies in the creation and implementation of business models that are more resource-friendly. This is why ESCP has developed a specific training offer on all its campuses, such as the Sustainable Business Model Development programme on the Berlin campus. By associating itself with the Circular Economy and Sustainable Business Models Chair in the organization of this conference series, Executice Education actively participates in the promotion of this theme in society.

First Guest: Dr. Ameenah Gurib-Fakim, former Mauritian president and renowned scientist

The 1st guest personality on May 29, 2019 was Her Excellency Dr. Ameenah Gurib-Fakim, President of the Republic of Mauritius (2015-2018), L'Oréal Prize for Women in Science, and 96th most powerful woman in the world according to Forbe magazine's 2017 ranking. Internationally renowned scientist Ameenah Gurib-Fakim spoke on the subject of climate change and its implications for sustainable development in Africa and small island developing States.

Ameenah Gurib-Fakim warned bridging the gap between science and policymaking is critical if the world is to effectively tackle climate change. She claimed the world needs real policies for properly communicating science – adding that decisive action was needed to ensure development planning was inclusive of climate change solutions. She addressed the case of Africa who remains at the epicenter of many of these challenges. She called for more international cooperation on these issues: "the heating and increasing acidification of the oceans can no longer be tackled by national governments; it needs to be done through collaboration that includes the big players".

On this occasion, Professor Frank Bournois, Dean of ESCP, presented Mrs Gurib-Fakim with the honorary title of Doctor Honoris Causa, the most prestigious distinction awarded by the School.
