The event will take place on ESCP’s Paris (République) Campus on 24 January, with a presentation by Royal Holloway University’s Dr Chikako Oka.

Organized by the Sustbusy Research Center at ESCP and the Deloitte ESCP Chair in Circular Economy & Sustainable Business Models, and coordinated by the chair’s scientific co-directors, Professors Aurélien Acquier and Valentina Carbone, the 18th Business & Society Research Seminar will host Professor Chikako Oka, from Royal Holloway University’s School of Management & Centre for Research into Sustainability. She will present her working paper entitled Analysing the Evolving Texture of Transnational Industrial Relations: Opening the Black Box of Interfirm and Firm-Union Relationships in the Global Garment Industry.

Dr Oka is interested in the antecedents, mechanisms, and consequences of corporate social responsibility (CSR) in general, and better labour conditions in global supply chains in particular. She is part of the Garment supply chain governance project, a multi-country project which examines the changing governance of labour standards in the global garment industry post-Rana Plaza, and has published articles about how international buyers and labour unions influence working conditions in garment supply chains in South East Asia.
