ESCP professors and alumnus Michel Barnier, as well as other LabEx ReFi members, will be taking part in a conference entitled "Financial Regulation and Stability after Brexit" and co-organized by the laboratory in Brussels on the 21st of November.

The UK is most likely to exit the Single Market on 29 March 2019 or 31 December 2020. Financial institutions based in the UK will thus lose their passporting rights to the European market. The Brexit negotiations are in a difficult phase, and it is hard to predict what relationship the UK will have with the EU in the future. This conference held at The Egmont Palace, which houses the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affair, will examine some of the most important issues raised by this profound regime change with an opening address by Deputy Prime Minister of Belgium and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Affairs Didier Reynders, and a closing speech by Michel Barnier, the European Union Chief Negotiator (Task Force for the Preparation and Conduct of the Negotiations with the United Kingdom under Article 50 TEU).

Autorité des Marchés Financiers board member, ESCP associate professor and LabEx ReFi scientific committee President Christian de Boissieu, ESCP's Associate Dean for Research, Pramuan Bunkanwanucha, professors Angélique Massolo and Michael Troege as well as Associate Professor François-Gilles Le Theule, and other members of the Laboratory of Excellence for Financial Regulation - a research centre dedicated to the evaluation of regulation policies and created as an initiative of ESCP (the project coordinator), CNAM, ENA, University Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne and CNRS -, will be among the 240 persons expected to attend, as well as prestigious guest speakers like John Kay (Oxford University and The Financial Times), French Banking Federation CEO Marie-Anne Barbat-Layani, and the head of financial affairs at the French Directorate General of the Treasury, Sébastien Raspiller.
