The youth engagement group of the French G7 Presidency took place from June 9th to 13th at ESCP in Paris under the high patronage of Mr Emmanuel Macron, President of the French Republic.

Meaning of the Y7 : #FairFuture

The French Presidency has tasked the Open Diplomacy Institute with organising the Y7, the youth engagement group of the French G7 Presidency. The Open Diplomacy Institute is an association created in 2010 by Thomas FRIANG, an alumnus of ESCP. The Institute aims to ensure that everyone understands and makes his this globalised world and can fully exercise his citizenship. Since 2011, the Y7 has become a unique space for dialogue between young people and G7 leaders, just like the Y20 for the G20.

The Y7 took place from June 9th to 13th at ESCP in Paris under the high patronage of Mr Emmanuel Macron, President of the French Republic. Delegations of young leaders representing all G7 countries as well as invited African countries, including the African Union, will negotiate and draft a final communiqué to make concrete recommendations to G7 Heads of State and Government.

The young delegates have worked for a week of negotiations and focused on tackling economic, gender, climate and technological inequalities. The final recommendations will be delivered directly to the “sherpas” - diplomatic advisors - at a meeting with the heads of delegation, so that they can directly influence the work of the G7.

Y7 calls on the G7 to act quickly and effectively to tackle inequalities

The recommendations of the Y7 delegates were given to several members of the government (Bruno le MAIRE, Brune POIRSON and Gabriel ATTAL) during the week, and on Thursday, June 13 to the sherpas (diplomatic advisors) of the G7 leaders. They aim to reduce inequalities in four areas of work.

  1. Reduce economic inequalities, in particular by calling for the creation of an alliance for a fairer globalization.
  2. Reduce inequalities between women and men, in particular by making women's participation in public policy making systematic.
  3. Reduce inequalities exacerbated by the climate crisis, in particular by declaring a climate emergency and increasing national contributions dedicated to the implementation of the Paris Agreement.
  4. Reduce inequalities in the face of major technological change by ensuring that everyone has access to an open and free Internet as a human right.

"ESCP is celebrating its bicentenary this year thanks to its ability to develop a long-term vision. It is therefore only natural that we support the Y7 initiative, led by our Alumnus Thomas Friang who created the G20 and G8 of young people already hosted by ESCP in 2011. This generation that we are training will experience a world with new challenges. It is up to us to give a voice to the leaders of tomorrow today!" Dimitri CHAMPOLLION, Director of Brand and Communications, ESCP
